Hello my dear friends
How are you,I hope you will be better and safe during the pandemic situations.
According to Mohandas karamchand Gandhi education is the source to develop heart, hand and head of learner. That is good and practically true but is our present education system fulfilling the same needs of holistic development ?
Today's education is mainly focused on the cognitive domain of human development.
Especially in India most of school education institutions are dedicated for the cramming of facts. Board results have become the symbol of respect in society. Are you not agree with me?
Let's see these questions-
1) why we read in the headlines of newspapers that someone's parents are bothering him/her to get more marks in exams ?
2)why students decide to suicide ?
Now we should focus gradually on the merits and demerits of present education system-
Merits of present education system:-
- It is good to teach theoretical subjects as political science, history etc.
- It decides a minimum time period of education to become qualified or eligible to attempt in any competition exam.
- It has a easy and fast evaluation system.
- Due to present education system our classrooms are diversified.
- It doesn't support the idea of segregation of students on the basis of their abilities because it can create inferiority complex between the students.
- It focus on the compulsory learning for every student of such basic subjects as mathematics and science as well as languages till the 10th standard.
- It doesn't fulfill the requirement of holistic development, the maximum power of present education system is dedicated to develop cognitive aspect.
- Lack of learning by doing
- Doesn't respect individual differences
- Present education system doesn't pay heed to the different rate/speed of individual's learning.
- Mainly give importance to marks.
- Lack of vocational training
- Doesn't provide paths to creativity
- Doesn't develop the feeling of nationalism
- It is far away from skill development
- Education has become market
- Doesn't proceed to understanding and reflective levels of teaching
- Doesn't follow necessary student ,teacher ratio
- Doesn't have property trained teachers
- Doesn't develop values
- Doesn't diagnose the problems of students
- Curriculum is not related to daily life experiences.
- Doesn't follow the provisions of remedial teaching.
- Doesn't adapt the concept of continuous and comprehensive evaluation with honesty.
- Strengthen government schools so that everyone can achieve education while belonging to weaker sections of society
- Provide quality teacher training
- Include teachers in curriculum framework
- Provide alternate curriculum.
- Don't focus only and only on measurement, focus on evaluation
- Diagnose the students weak areas of learning provide remedial teaching.
- Appoint more teachers
- Adapt the formula of learning with earning (vocational education)
- Focus on all three domains of learning-cognitive, affective, psychomotor
